The closest major railway station is New Jalpaiguri (NJP) in Siliguri, about 70 km from Darjeeling. NJP is well-connected to major Indian cities. From NJP, options include private taxis, shared jeeps, or the iconic Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (Toy Train) which takes a scenic 7-8 hours.
Darjeeling is well-connected by road from Siliguri, Kalimpong, and Gangtok. Regular state-run and private buses, as well as shared jeeps (known as 'sumos' or 'boleros'), operate frequently. The journey from Siliguri takes around 3-4 hours via scenic mountain roads.
