01 — Overview
A golden desert city where living forts, havelis, dunes, and night skies shape the trip.
Jaisalmer feels different from Rajasthan's larger cities because the desert is always close. The old fort is still alive with homes, guesthouses, temples, cafes, and shops, while the streets below lead to carved havelis, stone facades, and quiet corners of golden sandstone. A good Jaisalmer trip should not be only a desert camp night. Give the fort and havelis enough daylight, walk around Gadisar Lake in the morning, then choose the dunes carefully for sunset, music, and stargazing. Sam is busier and has more camps; Khuri is usually quieter and better for travelers who want a softer desert evening.
02 — Things to do
A golden hill fort with homes, temples, cafes, narrow lanes, and viewpoints still woven into daily life.
An intricately carved merchant mansion complex and one of the best places to see Jaisalmer's sandstone craft up close.
A calm lake edged by chhatris and shrines, best for early morning light or a gentle late-afternoon pause.
The most popular dune zone for sunset, camel rides, jeep rides, folk music, and overnight desert camps.
A Jaisalmer plan that gives equal space to the fort, havelis, lake, desert sunset, and one slower old-town morning.
